UK residents to get 24 hour power supply!

The small island of Muck in west Scotland was one of the last places in the UK not to have a regular 24 hour power supply – now a new renewable electricity system is giving them what polluting fuels never could!

Previously the 38 residents of the remote island had to ration their use of power to over just nine hours a day and struggled to share the power from a 25kW generator – with islanders having to give each other slots to use washing machines.

The new system, developed and installed by leading edge renewable energy company, Wind and Sun uses both wind and solar integrated in a way pioneered on the larger island of Eigg a few years ago.  There is a new back up diesel generator, but it’s not seeing use so far.  For full details see Wind and Sun’s site: http://www.windandsun.co.uk/news/isle-of-muck-gain-24hr-power.aspx
